Review: Q&A a Day for Creatives

If you're looking to grab a a little bit of time to capture a moment or kickstart your creativity, the Q & A series is fantastic! I'm currently working through Q&A a Day for five years. I haven't finished an entire year yet, but the excitement is building.

In Q&A a Day for Creatives, they share a new format and creative prompts. Instead of a small book that you can tuck into a nightstand drawer, desk, or bag, the for Creatives version is notebook size. Each page is has four squares for each day, so creatives can go through the book for four years. They can see their ideas, styles, and mediums change. Such a fantastic idea!

The thick notebook stays open very well and the pages have a nice smoothness and thickness. This is a book that can give creatives a breath of creative air or inspire new artists to consistently practice, practice, practice. I have a plan to give some Q&A books away to some of my close friends and family.

Update: Q&A a Day

I began using Q&A a Day: 5-Year Journal by Potter Style at the beginning of March (about a month and a half ago). I wanted to share an update as I stated in the original review,

"I'm looking forward to restarting a journal. The pages are sturdy with gold trim. Fun and fancy while being practical. I hope to share an update as I journal along with this 5-Year Journal. I might even see what the other journals offer. Potter Style has a journal for kiddos, creatives, and more! Excellent idea, Potter Style. I think you have a winner!"

It's still a winner! And part of my evening route, that I've only missed a couple times since it's arrival in the mail. The days I skipped were days when I've been sick or too exhausted to write. I've been amused by the daily questions and how perfect some of them fit into the day's events. Some prompts didn't always fit, but being a personal journal, you can write what you wish or take a tangent. It's fun. I'm looking forward to continuing the Q&A a Day. I also want to invest in a couple other journals for friends and family members.

Q&A a Day: 5-Year Journal by Potter Style


When I saw the online picture of Q&A a Day, I thought, "What a great journal idea!" It's a new way to begin journaling again. I've been itching to get back to writing every day, but it's been put on my awful "someday list."

Q&A a Day arrived in the mail and I was utterly charmed when I opened the plain brown cardboard package. The book easily fit in my hand and it's simply beautiful in it's simplicity. I'd say the size of the book is similar to an old fashioned prayer book or the size of large cellphone today, but three times as thick as a cell phone.

The journal begins with January first, but you can begin any time! Just open up to the day and answer the question. You will need to fill in the 20__ blank with the year and you have four lines to complete the answer. Questions range from serious to silly, thoughtful to lighthearted. I am beginning with March 1 which reads, "How could today have been better?" Wow. That's a pretty deep starter questions, but as they say, "No time like the present"! (If anyone is wondering, yes, Potter Style includes a page for Leap Year.)

Review: The Quarryman's Bride

The Quarryman's Bride by Tracie Peterson


The Knox family and the MacLachlan family were very close. Emmalyne Knox and Tavin MacLachlan were ready to be married, but tragedy, family tradition, anger, and distance tore them a part. Years later the Knox and MacLachlans return to be neighbors, but it's a hard friendship with so many years of silence and distance between them.

Emmalyne's and Tavin's story is the second book in the Land of Shining Water series. The books in this series are standalone titles, so reading them out of order will not hinder any of the tales. The binding ties are the stories' location (Minnesota) and the time period (1800's). Two of my favorite themes!

Peterson explores the heritage of Scottish and Welsh families in this book. The family tradition plays well with the Icecutter's family promise of caring for the daughter's family. Instead of digging up ice, the families work in a quarry and blast through rock. The families work through their tragedies and overcome their anger and heartache.
